The Turkish invasion caused the population to move over the mountain Kozjak down to the coast where soon started to build forts – castles. Around these castles small towns started developing with a very distinctive architecture it, later on, small towns have been developed with a distinctive architecture that has remained a permanent feature of the Kaštela districts that are now connected in today’s city.
