TRIBUNJ - small Mediterranean village with narrow streets and compact
houses. The old part of town is built on an island which was later connected
to the mainland.
Tribunj has emerged as a fortified castle on a small islet with narrow streets
and compact houses, where people fleeing from the Turks found their shelter.
The old part of town was built on the islet. A stone bridge connecting the
island to the mainland, was built much later, and a new village developed
around it. On the top of the neighboring hill fortress Jurjevgrad, was placed
in 1298. Lather on, on its ruins, the cemetery and the church of St. Nicholas
was built. Saint Nicholas, the patron of sailors and fishermen, is also the
patron of the Tribunj, widely known fishermen village.
During the tourist season the traditional celebration, Tribunj and Fishermans
night are organised. The holidays of the Assumption 15th August and St. Nicholas'
6th December are particularly celebrated.
