TROGIR – is located on the island between the mainland
and the island of Ciovo with which it is connected to the stone bridge. Wealth
of historical and cultural monuments, masterpieces, narrow streets and art
collections inspires every visitor. Trogir Riviera, well-indented and abundant
with small bays, capes, islands enriched with lush Mediterranean vegetation
is still preserved in its original form and therefore extremely attractive
to the boaters.
City of Trogir, situated on the island between the mainland and the island
of Ciovo with which it is connected to the stone bridge, was founded by Greek
colonists in 3 ct. Kr. It’s considered the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic
city and therefore is from 1997. under UNESCO protection. Rich cultural heritage
and a mild Mediterranean climate with 2700 hours of sunshine a year, makes
it one of the most attractive destinations in Croatia.
The castle and the tower surrounded by walls form the core of Trogir. Trogir
is a real town-museum and a wonderful destination to visit, sink for a moment
in time, walking the narrow streets enjoy the stone facades of the old portal,
heads of various human and animal motifs. In the period from 13th till 15th
century, artistic, social and economic power of Trogir is at its peak. It is
a time of great prosperity when the city walls, cathedrals, monasteries and
palaces are being built by famous artists Nikola of Florence Andija Aleši and
Ivan Duknovica. The most beautiful part of Trogir is a town square where they
are located: St. Lawrence cathedral with a magnificent portal of Master Radovan,
communal renaissance palace, church St. Sebastian, the town loggia from the
14 century, and small and large palaces from the 15th century of the noble
family Ćipiko.
During the summer in Trogir are organized numerous cultural events. Art experts
and lovers can enjoy classical concerts and chamber ensembles, exhibitions
on the premises of the Modern Gallery and the theater, whose performances are
situated within the old city center. Visit some of the public festivities,
such as fishermen's nights, when in all streets of the city fish specialties
are prepared, or Trogir day’s fiesta.
