Central Dalmatia covers an area of 4524 km2, with its 460,000 residents, it
represents the centre and heart of Dalmatia. Since Dalmatia is, as often said,
the Mediterranean as it once was, its central part, around Split is then certainly
the hart of Mediterranean.
Central Dalmatia includes a large country side through which flows the river
Cetina and the coastal belt with many islands. In Split surroundings are situated
other large coastal resort, Trogir and Omis, while Makarska Riviera is placed
further south. In front of Split are placed side by side, almost all large-Dalmatian
islands: Brac, Solta, Hvar and Vis.
The only stone carving school in the Adriatic is located in Pučišća on the
island of Brac. The students use famous and appreciated Brac stone from which
some parts of the White House in Washington, the Parliament in Vienna, the
Governor's Palace in Trieste, parts of the Parliament in Budapest and many
other magnificent building are made. Brac is known for its 200 m sandy beach "Zlatni
rat, paradise for surfers.
Do not forget to visit Hvar, the sunniest Croatian island that respectable
American Travelers Journal in 1997 edition, declared one of the ten most beautiful
islands in the world.
Near the island of Vis, where lie the remains of Roman thermal baths and the
ancient theatre, is placed the Blue Cave - a natural phenomenon of the Adriatic.

Like other regions in Croatia, Central Dalmatia also has its own gastronomic
specialties the seafood and meat dishes are prepared differently from the interior
due to the specific climate characteristic. Shellfish and crustaceans are prepared
“a la buzara”, and Dalmatian meat specialty is well known “pasticada with gnocchi”.
Typical Dalmatian desserts are “fritule” and” rožata”.
