The Testaments

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

This hit book of 2019, written by Margaret Atwood is definitely something to bring with you on your sailing vacation. It is a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale with the story set 15 years after the events of the previously mentioned book. The story has been told by three female narrators: aunt Lydia who is secretly writing her memoirs, Agnes – a young woman who has grown up in Gilead and is supposed to be married to a commander and Daisy – a teenager living in Canada. How these young women may or may not be connected – to one another and also, in Daisy’s case, to Gilead – is one of the questions that drives the first hundred pages or so of this exciting novel. Do not miss to read it!

The Eight Mountains

The Eight Mountains by Paul Cognetti

This bestseller is an international sensation and has bought Paul Cognetti the reputation of “the new Elena Ferrante”. The story follows two young boys from different backgrounds who meet in the mountains every summer and the men they grow up to become. As Annie Proulx said, “It is an exquisite unfolding of the deep way humans may love one another”, a story about friendship, the bond between fathers and sons, but also a story about love for mountains. Imagine enjoying this booking while sailing in the Zadar region with a view of the magnificent Velebit mountain!

Farewell Cowboy By Olja Savičević Ivančević

While sailing in Croatian waters why not read one of the best Croatian authors? Olja Savičević Ivančević is young but well-known writer from Split who spent her childhood in Kaštela, very close to our charter base! Another curiosity – after she graduated, she worked as a teacher of Croatian language and literature and one of our booking team members was her student! The Guardian described this novel as “Dazzling, funny and deadly serious, this perfectly pitched novel about the legacy of the Yugoslav war heralds the arrival of an exciting new European voice.” It follows the story of Dada who returns to remote Croatian village, after leading not such a fulfilling life in Zagreb. Hoping to free her family from the grip of the past, Dada vows to unravel the mystery of her brother’s final days.
