KASTELA - Group of 7 District, which extends in the length of 17 km,
is situated on the northern coast of the Kastela bay between Split and Trogir,
near Split airport. Picturesque landscape with its richness, abundance of
sunshine, a pleasant Mediterranean climate and gorgeous colors attract an
increasing number of tourists. In Kastel Gomilica a newly built marina Kastela
is located, that in a short time of its existence has become an important
charter base in this part of the Adriatic.
City Kastela covers the northern coast of the bay between Split and Trogir,
protected by the mountain Kozjak from the north and surrounded the central
Dalmatian islands from the south. Diversified landscape its mellowness, richness,
abundance of sunshine, a pleasant Mediterranean climate and gorgeous colors
attract an increasing number of tourists.
TheTurkish invasion, caused moving of the population from the mountain Kozjak
along the coast where they have soon build a fort-Castell. Arround it, later
on, small towns have been developed with a distinctive architecture which
later became permanent features of Kastela connected in today's city. Each
castle was built in the form of regular cubes with square located in a middle,
while the streets are placed at a right angle. The church is in the beginning
was out, and later within the stone walls of Kastela.
When you visit Kastela, do not miss to see the Vitturi castle on whose second
floor is the Museum of the City of Kastela, which includes: Archaeological
Department, Cultural and Historical Section, Department of Contemporary Art
and Pedagogical department. The Vitturi Castle is famous for the legend (the
second half XVII.) that explains the tragic fate of Miljenko and Dobrila, in
many ways similar to the story of Romeo and Juliet. According to this legend
many novels, dramas and operas have been written. On the sandy beaches of the
western part of the Gulf was built tourist village Resnik with pavilions, bungalows
and excellent tourist offer.
