      About Stobreč

Stobreč is a small peninsula with a population of roughly 5,000 people. It overlooks the distant Mosor and Perun mountains and is home to the mouth of the Žrnovnica River. It also has its own Split, which practically serves as its eastern suburb, with Diocletian's Palace accessible on foot with a somewhat longer stroll. During Epetion, the city and port thrived, as shown by finds reaching to the mouth of the Žrnovnica river. After a thousand years, a new rural settlement emerged around the Church of St. Lawrence. Recently, an inscription on a sarcophagus carrying Lucius Artorius Castus suggested that the legendary King Arthur was buried in Stobreč. This finding garnered global news.
